Projects
Briefings, consultancy, mediation
As a historian, author and Middle East expert, Daniel Gerlach has continuously travelled the Arab and Muslim world for two decades. These experiences have resulted in dense and resilient relationships with people and institutions, which Gerlach brings to his project work. Gerlach sees himself as a representative of the crafts of applied science, implementing projects on the basis of solid analysis as well as historical, political, linguistic and cultural knowledge – preferably in a team with other experts. As director general of the Berlin-based Candid Foundation gGmbH – a think-and-do tank for intercultural and international dialogue – Gerlach himself works on projects for dialogue and mediation in the Middle East.
He currently heads an international expert group in support of the Iraqi National Dialogue Initiative. Gerlach regularly gives presentations, briefings and seminars at research institutions, ministries and non-governmental organisations. In autumn 2018, he was a Poynter Fellow at Yale University.
